About

For over a decade, Camilo Fuentealba has tended to New York and its people as another kind of holy union. On numbered and unnumbered streets, the Chilean-Canadian artist sees private love in public (among other things): delightful, dramatic and sometimes deranged displays of affection.

Camilo’s photographs are not candid but moments before; undressed displays of humanity captured in reverence. Initially labeled and filed as a street photographer, Camilo’s style is now understood to be outside of genre’s roll call; a kaleidoscope of fashion, photojournalism and portraiture. The artist’s training and intuition prevail in every image without falter, but “without the eye,” he maintains, “all you hear is sound and miss the music.”

Camilo Fuentealba is not what some call anti-wedding or pro-tradition, he is simply there: the wedding photographer for those who don’t want a wedding photographer. He will not tell you to “act natural”, direct you to kiss once more, or ask that you go get your grandmother (unless specifically requested). He documents two people’s day of love, as it happened, without intervention and with intention.

The wedding, to the photographer, is simply a dolled-up street: less grime and more dancing. People and place fill a frame but it's the image that outlasts them, a memory. Camilo’s methods have been tried and tested across America, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, and Chile. His distinct visual calling card has attracted commercial and boutique clients– Coach, The New York Times, Nylon, SiriusXM, and Rachel Comey, among them.
